Smith Foundry Attends Spectrum 2016 : Annual Odyssey Users Conference

I walked into the hotel lobby in St. Joseph, MI prepared for two days of education and peer-to-peer networking.  The first thing I saw was the CFO of a well-regarded foundry dressed in full Green Bay Packers regalia.  That was just a matter of hours before US Bank Stadium’s christening as a regular season football venue.  By the time the game was over, Sam Bradford and the Minnesota defense had demonstrated their mettle and the Packers fans were well out of sight.  The learning opportunities began in earnest.

Though Smith Foundry has been an annual participant, this was my first chance to attend Spectrum.  B&L has been an important partner for us, as we strive to drive ever greater performance from our process.

To be certain, getting the most out of our Odyssey system is crucial to our managing our business.  Our customers are rightfully demanding, and Odyssey helps us meet those demands.  B&L did a tremendous job hosting the event.  I participated in classes covering mulitple aspects of the ERP – including inventory management, job cost analysis, and shop floor management.  The Odyssey system is a robust ERP by any standard, but that it is tailor made for metalcasters provides incredible benefits.  I learned a great deal.

As well, I enjoyed the many round-table, panel, and speaker-format industry presentations.  I listened to many examples about how other foundries have used Odyssey to better their businesses.  Best practices were shared.

I’ve got to tip my hat to B&L.  They carried off a fine two days of events, as enjoyable as they were productive.  The event will undoubtedly help Smith Foundry continue to get better.  Those improvements will yield direct benefit to our customers.  You can’t ask for anything more than that.
