How well do you know Gray and Ductile Iron?

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW GRAY AND DUCTILE IRON?

One of the most important components when designing a casting is what material should I use? At Smith Foundry the answer is always Iron! Smith Foundry produces two types of castings Gray and Ductile Iron. Benefits of Gray Iron include machinability, good wear resistance, ability to dampen vibrations, and it is a less expensive material.  Ductile Iron is stronger and has a higher malleability or ductility. Austempering Ductile Iron or ADI produces exceptional weight to strength ratio while providing a significant cost savings versus alternatives such as steel. The next time you are debating a material and require anti-vibration properties, machinability, good cast-ability/fluidity, low stress concentration and above all sensibility, think Iron and think Smith Foundry.
