Nathan CW Smith named Executive V.P. and Chief Operating Officer of Smith Foundry


Minneapolis, Minnesota – May 1, 2017 – Smith Foundry Company announced an addition to their leadership team. Effective immediately,  Nathan CW Smith has been promoted to Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Smith Foundry Company. In his new role, Smith will be responsible for all operations of the company, from foundry to front-office.

Prior to joining Smith Foundry in a Business Development role, Smith had served as General Manager for Element Materials Technology in St. Paul, Minnesota; he has also held leadership positions with United Technologies, Otoka Energy, and Best Buy. He earned both an MS and an MBA from Indiana University. Smith is also a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a Surface Warfare Officer on board the U.S.S. John Paul Jones, the U.S.S Bonhomme Richard and at Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook, CA.

Smith System Heating Company got its start in 1905 manufacturing pot belly stoves and then purchased a small gray iron foundry in Minneapolis which became Smith Foundry. In 1988, Neil Ahlstrom, a third generation manager of the company, purchased the foundry from the Smith Family.
